McKevlin's first became introduced to Justin Quintal when he was a grom from Hilton Head, SC. Back then, he used to venture north and surf against the Folly Beach locals in our district of the ESA. Since that time he's moved to Neptune Beach, FL, picked up a sponsorship from Ricky Carroll Surfboards, won three of Joel Tudor's Duct Tape Invitational competitions in a row, and sold hundreds of JQ model surfboards shaped by Mr. Carroll. Now, Justin has embarked on the next adventure in his surf career - starting his own company - Black Rose Mfg.
Justin says he is on a pursuit to create timeless surf equipment, to oscillate and operate between progressive surfing and surfing's past. His end result: Surfboards that provide further insight into the practice of wave riding. To do this, he's chosen Ricky Carroll to be his primary shaper.
The Hard Carbon is BRG's most responsive longboard model. Its rails are relatively turned down (60/40) allowing for the rider to create his own pumping speed.
The Thin Liszy, at first glance, appears to be yet another Steve Lis inspired fish. It is, except that it has more modern, less full, and more turned-down rails. New meets old.

The Benedictis a traditional mid-length egg shape with a twist. It has a bump in the last 8 to 10 inches of the tail. The board still has enough width to flow as mid-ranges should, but the bump allows for a more pulled-in tail to prevent slide-outs.
